UNON Complex Places to Stay Security Info for travellers

1. The Seasonal Swamp and the Oxidation Reservoirs: View

These two areas attract many water birds including a pair of crested cranes. The two adult cranes return to the compound every year to breed and rear their new chicks.

2. The Gigiri Nature Trail:

What was until recently an unusable area of approximately 27 acres (10.8 ha), filled with construction debris and other waste, is now a recreational and educational area for staff and visitors who are now able to enjoy walks along the two main circuits of the trail and observe over 100 African Indigenous trees planted along the trail. The objective is to gradually replace Lantana camara - a noxious invasive weed spread through much of Kenya - and the pre-existing Eucalyptus trees with these African indigenous trees. There is also a seasonal swamp located on the lower part of the plot where quite often birds can be seen. A list of planted trees, birds sighted on the compound as well as other information on the establishment of the trail can be found at the site of the trail.

3. The Memorial Garden

Also called the Garden of Remembrance, this is a special and peaceful area dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 1998 bomb blast of the United States Embassy in Nairobi.

Enjoy your stay!
